Grinder/Mixer Education Needed!

Hello,

I am in need of an education with regards to feed grinders. I have started finishing about 10 head of beef cattle a year and would like to grind my own feed. My problem is I don't know what to look for when it comes to selecting a good use grinder/mixer. My largest tractor is a JD 4020, so I need something to fit that hp range. Any suggestions please!

Matt in Pa; we always ran gehl units model 65 to 95 to 120 model units. 95 unit would be gerat for you. changing screens is simple on those units. for the fats we never ran it with the screen that just left it kinda cracked. have three of them in the shed all for sale as parts or still could be used . we don't use them now. have another larger all hyd unit now.

Any of those older grinder mixers would do fine. Use a big screen and keep the rpms down so you just crack the corn. I'd look for roller mills too. When you get to feeding a critter 25 pounds of corn you don't want it ground fine. Will you grind hay too? I'm no feeder but I think you want around 2 pounds per day. third party image
