My absolutly trouble free 50 year old baler decided to have a fit today. Intermitant miss on the inside knotter (1 in 12 broke). Muddled through 50 bales bales or so thinking it needed to wear off a little surface rust. Gave up, put the help in the drivers seat and rode the baler to see what was going on. Lets see, once a bale is made and tied one string is about 2 inches longer than the good side??? (lift both strings on bale in chamber and one comes up higher than the other). Hummm.... But it's working? Op's wait, didn't pull off the bill hook that time??? What happens if'n I do this? Nothing. Hows bout this? Nod'da. Whole time help (15 year old) is offering his expert opinion. Then it hits me. Try that. Perfect. Try again just to make sure. Yep gotta be it. 10 min fix.

Any guess's to what it was?

Hint - There is only one, but it takes two.

No, the 15 year old suggestion involved getting my fat arse off of it and getting a new baler.

Yep, twin tension. It consists of two metal plates held together by spring loaded bolts. Between the two of them it had had groves deep enough that you could run the twine back and forth just holding one side (no tension). I just replaced one with a piece of flat stock until I can get proper replacements.

Ah, the joys of having help that knows it all...


I just wish my 14 year old nephew could get the concept of how to stack on the wagon right.. or maybe it's just a ploy so he can ride on the front and hand ME the bales while my 14 year old daughter runs the tractor because she can't stack either...

I had the same problem with the twine tensioner on my old S67. I just turned the metal plates around.
