NU or HS moldboard?

What is the difference between "New Universal" and "High Speed" moldboards? I guess the obvious is that the high speed bottoms are for going faster, but is that all? Do they have the same bolt patterns and fit the same standards? I'm trying to fix up a John Deere trailer plow from the early 60's. The moldboards on there now say HS436NC which I assume are high speed. But I'll be pulling the plow with a "G" and "D" John Deere and I dont think I'll be going too fast! Thanks for any help.

The HS bottom came first and is probably what came on your plow when it was new.As tractor horsepower increased in the 60s, lots of farmers wanted to plow deeper and,or faster.Plus there was a big push from univesities and farm publications saying deeper tillage led to higher yields in corn.
In about 1967 Deere then came with the SDT(Semi Deep Tillage) bottom.Unfortunately the SDT tended to kind of dump the furrow slice on its edge and didn't cover all that well even with coverboards.Deere's response was to announce the New Universal bottom.It was supposed to do a good job whether pulled fast or slow,deep or shallow.I still like the HS bottom best,especially in sod.

I'll hazard a guess here- the curvature is different to accomodate the speed. High speed should require less curve because the speed throws the furrow better? When I was working for Dad, he didn't like it if I drove a gear faster- said it threw the dirt too far. I figured that was a legitimate argument on the round alongside the fencerow- if it landed on the neighbor's field.
