Oliver 356 sickle bar lift cable replacement

One of its problems is the lift cable that raises the cutter bar via the 3 point hitch. The cable is broken.

The 7/16" or so wire rope somehow connects to a 1/2" threaded rod inside of a big spring. The threaded rod attaches to a yoke. The cable is supposed to go through the big spring, wrap around a pulley and hook to the 3 point top link. The cable broke just past the spring.

Problem is- I have not been able to get it apart. Where the threaded rod threads into the yoke, I cannot break this free.

OF course, even if I do get it apart, I don't know if I'll be able to come up with a suitable replacement. How the heck do they transition from wire rope to threaded rod inside the spring anyway?

One way...
An eye-nut would thread onto the threaded rod, and a pair of wire-rope clips to form a loop in the wire rope. Or you could have your local rigging supplier permanently attach the wire rope to the eye-nut with a compression sleeve. Your favorite search engine will likely turn up images of these items. Parts would be readily available from most hardware / farm supply store.
