Hello all,
I have a NH 469 haybine that has the outer race of the bearing on the right hand side of the upper roll turning in its flangette. It doesn't spin as fast as the roll but just bearly creeps around as the machine is running. Should I do anything about it? How hard is it to remove and replace? The bearing seems to be good yet. Thanks

Tom

I have a 479 haybine which has had that same problem. It is on the conditioner roll bearing you can"t get at. (Drive side) It has been spinning in the race for a number of years. Probably several hundred acres. I tried several ideas which didn"t work so I just dump extra chain lube on it when I oil the chains. Seems to be fine.
Have since upgraded to a Hesston discmower but still have the 479 as it is in pretty good shape.
This is the mower I now keep in reserve to loan to the neighbors.

I have taken a hack saw blade,a 12 volt battery and jumper cables and hook the ground to the flange, the positive to the saw blade and drag it across the flange and it will splader weld to tighen the holding surface of the flange.

It doesn't take much.

I've also done this on shafts that have spun in the bearing and it works good.

Works for me. Gary

The outer race and the flangette have lost signifacant contact. So the bearing has less friction on the outside than the inside. Option one is to put on a new outer flangette. Option two is very slightly tack weld the outer race to the new flangette. Not enough heat to melt the grease in the bearing you THINK is good. Option three is replace the bearing and flangette! Not a big deal- and sooner or later- most likely sooner= you'll have to do it anyway. Too many decades of fixing stuff says that worn parts do not get better with age or fix themselves. If you're cutting now- nurse it along with the suggestions and replace it before next cutting. Dump lotsa oil on it if necessary- but you aren't going to find many bearings more accessible than one on the end of a shaft, open to the outside.
