I have a New Holland 912 Swather or Mower Conditioner and I would like to find out the age of it. The tag on the main chassis reads Sperry New Holland Model 912 s/n 179842. The tag on the header looks identical except it has a 14 stamped near the word Sperry and model 912A s/n 180569. The engine has a tag on the valve cover that reads E480403 A-9-HI on the top line, then 256D on second line, and 256DF-6005-A SO2693H on the bottom line. It is stamped *E312724* on the lip just above the pan on the other side of the engine.
I need to work on the engine, is it easy to remove the header and get it out of way?
I was told the hydrostatic drive is disconnected to wheels, where is this connection?
The engine has a hole nearly 2" in dia. where the big end of the #1 rod came out to take a look around. It looks like the rod bolt broke or came apart and then the crank throw came around and pushed the rod end thru the block between the two stiffening webs. I am thinking patch the hole with JB Weld, one new rod, and repair the crankshaft.
At the auction where I bought it I talked to the previous owner. He said he had had the engine repaired/rebuilt, loaded it on his trailer and hauled it home, unloaded it and drove it near his shop, did some work on the header, started it to reload it on trailer and it locked down. I didn't ask him why He didn't have the shop fix it again.
