Just saw a picture( old Ad) of a NI #30 mower towing a conditioner behind it, does any one have a good picture on how the PTO shaft attaches to the mower to power the conditioner? am looking to do this to my mower and conditioner and save from buying a haybine for a few years if possible. Any body ever used a set up like that? Any help would be appreciated ....Shawn

I just listed my two Cunningham conditioners in the NH Market Bulletin today. Gave up trying to keep them running years ago. You could always tell when one of the lower roll bearings was starting to go - You couldn't keep the hay from winding around the lower roll. When the bearings were new - no roll-ups. I also am selling my Oliver 356 mower which has the dreaded conditioner hookup. Never could use the conditioner behind the mower on my farm - too many large rocks, small fields, and hills everywhere.

I do not know how the shaft hooked up on that No. 30 New Idea, I have one setting here and it would be a nightmare to try to put a shaft on it. I also have a Oliver 415 (Exactly same mower as Cockshutt & Moline 415 Mowers) and it has the factory shaft and hitch for crimper on it and for many a year pulled them together (both JD & AC conditioners) and unless the hay was down (then no mower would cut it) had no problem ever pulling them together, Later went to a Case 555 9' mower-conditioner and with the real it would pick up the down hay and also did not mow down the cats with the Case as they could see the real comining and move not hunker down like with a sycle bar as they could not see that bar and would think they were safe and get cut up bad. And that mower conditioner hookup we pulled with a 28 HP John Deere B and the Case when we got it hooked it to the 27HP Farmall H tractor. The Farmall did not have hydrolics till we added it for the Mower-conditioner but the Oliver 415 mower required it so never tried the mower behind the Farmall

My grandmas neighbor had a New Idea Mower and a separate conditioner back in the mid sixties. The conditioner was driven off a stub shaft on the v .belt pulley on the mower

Yup, I ran a Cunningham crimper as a kid. Dad bought a used flail mower about the time I hit jr high and then a Haybine a few years later. I ain't goin' back.

What kind of tool did you carry to cut the grass off the wrapped up rollers? Always seemed to me I spent more time clearing the rollers than I ever did on the tractor.

Pocket knife, and a toolbox full of shearbolts. Oh how I hated that machine. Ran it with a wide-front WD Allis.

I used to run a Oliver 415 mower and I beleive it was a Oliver 37 crimper that way. the pto went straight thru the mower. You hooked it on there. Worked okay. Sure glad don't have to do it that way now thou. If everything is standing srtaight and nothing tangle sickel mowers are fine if not you can spend more time going backward than forward. Good Luck

I don't know about NI but MF 41 mowers were connected to the rear of the mower via a pto shaft connected to the rear hub pulley on the mower.I may be able to email a pic from the book if you really need to see it.

IH mowers were the same pto stub off the rear of the mower pulley. Had a neighbor used to do it that way, IH 100 mower and a Cunningham crimper,more years ago than I care to think about. I helped him out a couple of times, looks good in the pictures but the novelty wears out Faaaasst!
