I found two Kuhn model GF 440 tedders. One has one of its rotors removed. The other is whole. I would like to make one good one out of these two tedders. The owner of the whole one said that when the left rotor drops into a low place it gets out of time. The coupling sleeve, drive pin, and the cam rollers are in bad shape. Is this the cause of the problem? The local JD dealer can get most of the parts.

A quick short answer.. Yes, given your description there is too much slop in the coupling. You may also have excess play in the pin that fixes the outboard rotor in the working position. I just recently declared mine a parts machine and bought one with a digit drive system to handle this issue. I hate it when a twenty year old machine wears out :>

There is a ball and socket type joint on the swing behind models that wears out too. The rest of the drive procedes to wear quickly after that.
