Hi:
I just bought an oliver (raydex)rubber tire 2 furrow trail type plow.
It appears to be in fairly good condition but I do have a couple questions the hitch is just a flat bar with some holes drilled along its length, How would I hook this to the tractor or am I missing something??? how do you check what size the plow is 2-12,2-16,etc. because measuring from where I measured I get 2-24 did they make them like that???
is there manuals available for these plows

Thanks in advance for any help
Jim

I just posted a pic of the hitch of the plow in the implement photo section, I was able to get the camera going long enough to take that pic before the battery went dead.

Hi Guys

Measuring from beam to beam I get 12" so the plow is a 2-12.
Davpal that would be great if you can send those pics when you get them, I know what you mean about digital cameras
I finaly broke down and bought 1 at first I thought it was the greatest thing but for some reason my computer is not recognizing the camera now so I haven"t been able to download the pics that I do have...I knew where I stood with film cameras.
Thanks for the email J I will look for those numbers.
I created a small problem for myself, when I freeing up all the stuck pieces I broke the shaft that is the pivot for the tounge adjust lever...not a big deal but the plow will be taking up floor space untill I can make a new one.

I don't have a digital camera but I will take a picture but it takes me a while to get a picture cd made and have it posted for you. I know, everybody seems to have instant pics now with the digital cameras. I still like my film. Somebody has to keep the fuji and kodak people working! The H will love that two bottom plow. Perfect for it. H is a pretty good workhorse. Never found an H that I didn't like. Good luck.

Your H shouldn't have any trouble pulling that Oliver plow. It is most likely a 12 inch and one of the easiest pulling plows.

Usually a plow like that will have a spring loaded device on the hitch that can spring open if you hit a rock and will make it come unhitched from the tractor instead of breaking the tractor, plow, or the operator! You put a flat type of bolt on clevis on the drawbar on the tractor and the hitch of the plow just lifts up and drops in to the clevis. It is like a breakaway trailer. I am sure that is the way all of ours have been. Sounds like somebody took off the spring assembly off the plow. Should be some out there somewhere. I have one out behind the pole barn but I am sure my dad would be upset to see it gone! Good luck.

Plows are measured by the distance from one beam to another- ie, left side or center of one beam to left side or center of the next one. Will be 12, 14, 16, 18, etc. If you have only a flat bar between the plow and the tractor you are likely missing another piece, but not always. But if it has holes in it, likely you're missing one. Usually the front crossbar has many holes in it, and two flats with several holes bolt to that. It is to align the plow according to the line of draft. ie, center of pull. Line of draft of any plow is 1/4 of the bottom width, to the left of center of the total cutting width of the plow. ie, on a 3-16 plow, it is not! lined up with the point of the middle bottom- it is four inches to the left. Then you adjust the hitch to the tractor accordingly, as well as the tractor wheel spacing, so the inside of the right tractor wheel hugs the furrow wall.

Hi , Not an expert here but if you measure from beam to same side of next beam it'll get you real close to what it'll cut . As for the hitch I don't know but it sounds like you are missing something . Manuals might be available from the Floyd County museum .Here is the info and I left a link at the bottom - call (641) 228-1099. Fax (641) 228-1157. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central time, year round. Postal address is 500 Gilbert Street, Charles City, IA 50616. Sometimes the only thing you can get are copies and they aren't of the highest quality but are better than nothing . You'll need to know the model # and sometimes the serial # comes in handy . Good luck . ...Randy
