I have a Ferguson 3pt. cultivator that needs new sweeps/points. I won't cultivate crops with it, just use it as a field cultivator. It has points on it now. Should I stick with those, or put sweeps on it?

Type of harrow is your choice. Set it light, not deep for a smooter finish. I dragged mine with a piece of chain-link fence. You'd be surprised how much trash that will pick up, and it makes it smooth.

Depends on what kind of weeds you have. Points are good for killing quackgrass- pulls up the runners so they can bleach and die. Sweeps come in various widths- wider ones pull harder than narrow. They can undercut the entire soil surface and disturb all the weeds and soil.

Well what I'm doing is turning over some old corn field. It's a 2 acre piece that I planted trees around and may become part lawn in the future. I'm in the middle of plowing now. Then I'll disc, and finally cultivate to try and get rid of what might remain. I was thinking about narrow sweeps. I would like as smooth a finish as possible.

If you want it smooth you are going to need a harrow

Spike tooth after the spring tooth after the disc and depending on what model Ferguson cultivator you may or may not be able to set it up as a field cultivator, rigid shanks NO, spring shanks yes, set all shanks so they lign up as two rows alternating front to rear and use 8" full sweeps and set shanks 7" apart and pull spike tooth harrow behind
