Can anyone help with a parts source for an old IHC pull behind disk harrow? Axles are 1 1/8" square, about 36" long. Two front gangs of 5 disks each (18" scalloped edge), 2 rear gangs of 5 disks each (18" on outside to 8"-10" on inside). Spacer spools marked "PB 3053" with IH surrounded by "C"; these are only marks I've seen. Picture is on YT Identify Help under unknown disk harrow - Bill. Thanks.

You have either a model 9a or 9b harrow. Bearing spool are different depending on the disk spacing. The 9a had 7.5 inch disk spacing and the 9b had 9 inch spacing.

Thanks, Mingo. Spacing spools are 8 7/8" (= 9"?), with one end flat and the other very slightly convex. So, I guess we're looking at a 9b then. Appreciate it. Bill

What parts are you looking for? The only thing your going to find new are bearings and actual disk blades. All other parts will have to be bought used or fabricated. If it's an old insert type bearing the disk can be converted to sealed bearings with some modification and fabrication.

Agri Supply (www.agri-supply.com) has lots of generic disk parts. They have 1-1/8 x 9 spools listed. They also have bumper washers. Measure your axle, they"ve got several lengths for 1-1/8 listed. If you can"t find an axle there, Shoup (www.shoupparts.com) can custom make one for you.

Thanks, Hugh. Looks like I'll be needing a new axle, couple new disks and I believe a bumper washer, for sure. Maybe new bearings, too, if lack of axle movement caused disks to start rotating on axle (as opposed to with axle) and eventually wear a groove in the axle. I'm new to this stuff, so I may not be using the right words to describe the situation. Bill

A loose nut on the end of the axle is what caused the blades to move and start cutting in the axle, those groves in the axle can be welded up to like new, then just make sure you can get a good tighten on the axle nut. The axle part of the bearing would not cause the blades to wear to cut into it as all that the bearing not turning would do is cause the whole gang to slide instead of turning and would cause the disc to plug so bad you could not pull it far enough to wear a flat spot on the blades.

Thanks a lot for the advice, Leroy. Actually, the end of the axle closest to the nut was completely sheared off by the outermost disk, but I believe I can weld it back on then build it up. Two other problems, though: 1.) square hole in couple of disks is now round (make this square again by welding?), and 2.)inboard end of axle has really gouged out the big bumper washer(?). This end of the axle just looks like the rounded end of a rivet as opposed to other end that is threaded with a nut. Just weld this big bumper washer to the axle on this end? Any and all advice appreciated. Bill

I have put used blades on with a hole that was big enough square for the axle to turn completely around in it, just evened out the hole to the axle, if the nut is tight enough the blade will not move, the inside end of the axle head would be like a big flat rivit head and depending on how much is worm on both the axle and bumper washer if they would need any repair or not but I would think if they were wore bad enough they could be welded, if you try that put the whole assembly together and tighten as much as possibly can before welding to make sure the bumper washer lays flat against the blade, then final tighten after welded solid. after installing gang under disc put weight on to give grip to ground so you can pull to tighten with a 3' (three foot) wrench without turning the blades-axle against the ground. may even want to use a sledge hammer on that 3' wrench to get it completely tightened
