Been shopping for a new, used Rd. Baler. I have seen far too many replacement belts on these silage special units. Bad enough that someone can break an endless belt, but to then do a bad splice job for a repair. This is not color specific, as I have seen this in everybody's yards. Are these new belts just poorly made, or do you really have to work at it to break one?

Belts are a wear items on any round baler. Tougher hays are also tougher on the belts such as corn stalks and silage. Regular maintance can help this. If you replace the connecting pin or cable every 500-1000 bales it will not wear the lace as bad. Also if you can but equal pressure on all the belts it will help. This mean baling a level bale. Lastly put the baler under a shed when not it use because the sun will hurt them over time. One thing to consider when looking at used balers is making sure that all the belts are the same length. If one belt is shorter that the rest it takes most of the load and will can be a problem.

Last year one of the endless belts on my NH 664 de-laminated. Ended up with a 45 degree split on it. Called the local NH dealer and was told the construction of an endless belt is different and splices will not hold. Replacing with another endless belt is, I think, an 8 hour job at the dealer. Rear tail gate must come off and all the rollers partially removed to slip the belt in place. Put in a new spliced belt and it has been OK ever since
