I am thinking about a round baler but am only running a DB 950 rated at 40hp. Any ideas on what baler might be the best to look for? Would probably only do 50 to 100 bales a year. Thanks Paul

Hello, I just picked up a Vermeer 605C today from a dealer for $1850. It is in great shape with no welds and has all new wide belts on it. It's horsepower recomendation is a minimum of 40h.p.. It's not fancy with any bells and whistles. It's just a good old manual tie baler. Some people don't like the closed throat baler and they are a little more aggrivating at times , but they will get the job done. Just my 2 cents.

The Vermeer 504I and 5400 Rebel work fine with 40 HP. Why shop "used" or "cheap" when you can own a brand new Vermeer Rebel Baler, from the people who invented big round baling.

Whats the price on something new like that? Please take in mind, most of us can't afford a peice of equipment we need that costs more than $1000. I don't mean to jump on your case(and normally try to stay away from it), but it seems like you really try and push the products you sell at work. That's all fine and dandy, I work at a machine shop and we make sprockets for AGCO among other companies.

I try and get some business for them and have gotten a few jobs, but they were in a pinch and needed a custom sprocket. Instead of buying a new one from Deere or AGCO (that they had to special order) we cut the old one off the hub and put a new one on, and in 1 hour they were out the door with a smile.

You on the other hand seem to expect everyone can buy that NEW peice of equipment just because they want something else that will do the job. Today my dad and I just bought a Hesston 1014+2 hydra-swing for $600. while that's a great deal for the machine, it does need some work and we still had to scrape a little for that $600. Not everyone can afford NEW!!!!!

Also, Case/IH 8420, 8430 are the same as a Hesston 530-540.

You can also add Vermeer 504G, 504H, 503I, 504I, 504 Super I. You can run these balers with 40 HP but you may want to add restrictor plates and turn the density down.
