Just bought a used nh268 square baler, works fine other than the knotters. The left one hangs the knot on the billhook, seems to tie everytime just won't let the knot off. The right side just ties the leading end of the twine. Also the (sorry no idea what they're called) the two 'cams' that sit on top of the bale chamber that bring the twine into the knotters had to be adjusted the shaft that holds them was bent and they weren't opening far enough seem to have that worked out but wondering if that may be part of the problem. Any idea's, I replaced the billhooks they are brand new, also tried adjusting the spring adjuster on the side and checked to make sure the knife arm was brushing the billhook on the way back all seem fine.

I had the same problem with my 268 last year. Replaced the billhooks and some worn pinion gears and would still do the same thing. Had a baler mechanic come out to look at it and he adjusted the arm that would "sweep" the knot off of the billhook. Didn"t seem to have much problem with it after that but then again didn"t bale much after that. He also told me that they (the 268"s) didn"t really do well with the 9000 sisal twine and that they operated much better with the 7200. I still have 9000 in it and if it ever dries out here I have some grass hay down that needs to be baled and in a week or 2 I have a great stand of clover that will be ready to go. I hope it"s fixed because there"s nothing more aggravating than a baler giving you fits.

I also have a 268 and a 273. Is there a source for parts on the internet, or am I limited to a "not so local" dealer. I haven't found anyplace yet. Thanks for any help in advance. Gene

The shaft that is bent is probably the cause for both knotter problems. PLEASE DO NOT try to straighten it. Spend a few dollars and install a new one. The leading edge of the twine fingers should be adjusted so they line up with the left side of the bale chamber slot opening. Steve

The operator manual has details on all those adjustments, with pix of bad knots, etc,. and how to correct them.

The two cams are called twine fingers. The shaft you said was bent probably needs replacing. I recall that was the advice I was given when the shaft bent on my 67.

Look under the hook...there's a "thing" under the hook that pushes the twine and knot off the hook. That may need adjusted. I think it is on the same part as the cutter blade.(I think)
