Converting a small drag cultivator to 3 pt?

I have a few acres planted for a dove plot, it's all in 30" rows. I've had problems with weeds the last few years, so this year I decided to cultivate between rows. Yesterday I picked up the cultivator for $20. It's about 30" wide and a drag type. The front is rounded, not square.

I plan on moving the tines in the center off to the side, so I can operate directly over the row.

I'd like it to have a 3pt hitch, but not sure how to go about designing it. I do have a 110 mig welder and some limited experience. I also have access to a variety of flat, angle and square iron.

Should the top link be rigid, or should it swivel/pivot like a bush hog?

Also, would the cultivator be more effective if I mounted 2 small tires in the back. I'd keep the runners about 1" off the ground.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

OK. I'm giving up on this idea and going back to square 1. Thanks everyone for the advice.

I'd have to agree with the others, there are a lot of things that won't go well with this idea - wrong type of shovel, no clearance for the corn (you really need to cultivate 3 times, corn will be knee high the 3rd time....) and you need a parrallel linkage to keep the cultivator from swinging side to side, but able to float up & down.

4 row 3pts sell for scrap here too, easy to cut 2 wings off & have a 2-row cultivator with the duck feet shovels & you'll have something.

That is the center section of a spring tooth harrow, picture is not plain enough to tell if it is IHC or Oliver and made for finish ground work ahead of planter or drill, no good for cultivating after crop is up

I have seen old 4 row 3pt cultivators sell at most auctions for scrap price, $25-$50. By the time you cut that up and make the hitch you would be better off just to buy one.

On the other hand if you want to do it just for fun-and I completely understand-I would look for something with sweeps-will do a much better job for what you want.

Be careful though-don't want those sweeps too close to trim your corn roots-many cultivators will have the inside sweep trimmed just to prevent that.

That's not a cultivator, It's a harrow. It will kill small weeds only. For bigger weeds you need "sweeps" Also you won't have ant clearence over your crop. You might have some success by narrowing your tool up and keeping it between the rows.
