I recently purchased a McCormick Hay mower at an auction this weekend. I would just like to know a little information about the machine, such as colour scheme and years of production as well as any other relevent information.

The casting on the tool box says McCormick Hamilton Canada. On the frame there is a No.6 casting as well as a number, M1435. It has closed gearing and a 5ft cut.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

My No. 6 is an open gear mower but I don't think it says Canada on it

I really don't know too much about these implements but the gearing on the one I bought is inside a housing, making it closed, correct?

I'm green when it comes to this horse drawn stuff so bear with me.

On mine it has a large open gear on the axle that drives a smaller gear that you can see them from the outside then it also has some enclosed gears for the final part of the drive, on an enclosed gear mower you can't see any of the gears at all. Mine is setting out back of the barn fastened on a flat bed wagon along with a No. 4, a New Big 4, Don't remember if it is a No. 6 or Big 6, and a no. 7. There may be a difference in that with IHC making mowers under The IHC name and under the McCormick name there is a difference that I am not aware of. I am not sure now if mine have IHC or McCormic on them but I do have the parts book for mine. And it got dark about an hour and a half ago.

Mine is exactly like that, so it must be open gearing then. There probably were differences regardless, as McCormick is the only name cast on the tool box along with some IHC symbols spread throughout the mower.

Thanks for the help.
