Might be getting a new (to me) toy...

I looked again at the Hesston Hydra-swing, it's a 1014 +2. I called my Agco/Hesston dealer and they said it's about an 82, give or take because Hesston didn't go by serial numbers. It's got really good paint, and looks to be in pretty good shape yet, maybe need to work on the sickel a little but it was covered in grass, so I couldn't tell a whole lot.

One question I have is, What size tire belongs on the back? It has 2 car tires on the back right now, and I'm guessing it needs an 11L-15? If so we have 1 around as a spare for our chopper wagons, although they are all now bigger 10.00 or 12.00 15's so it is really too small to keep on a wagon for anything but temporary. Have to dig in the bane yards to get another 11L if that's the case. If it works good enough in swamp grass, our New Idea 290 and the parts machine may be sitting on the road with a For Sale sign...

Another Question, It looks like the crimper can be dropped fairly(doubt it) easy. How bad does the auger work to swath oats with? If it's not too bad of a grain loss we may do it that way instead of borrowing the neighbor's SP Every year. One less headache that way...

Crimper not bad to remove. I have a 1014 single sickle. I dropped tounge down and used 2 floor jacks under crimper, removed bolts and chain, dropped the jacks down and rolled it out. Goes back the same only backwards.

What size tire does it have? I'm guessing 11L-15, as it seems everything back then used 11L's. If so we have 1 laying around, just have to go to a bone yard and get one more, and maybe get a larger spare tire for our forage wagons so it will match...

You'll have to cut it earlier. Dry grain will shatter in the auger. Does woprk though- I cut barley a couple times with the NI 5209. Lock the rolls open, cut with dew, very little loss. Barley was tall, weeds were taller, plugged the draper on the JD 800 swather.

I guess we'll have to see. We were gonna look at it today, but with the weather so nice we ended up putting in some corn. Tomorrow we hope to get the rest in that we can, then we'll be done until we cut 1st crop in 2-3 weeks, then plow it under & go at it again....
