Hey all,

I am looking to build a sprayer that can reach up to about 35 feet into the trees to spray for bagworms. I currently have a good 8hp B&S engine, and am looking at this gun at Northern Tool to use to build a small size (30-50 gallon) tow behind sprayer.

My problem is figuring out what pump to use, and how to plumb it together. I have searched all over the net, and can find no plans or info that will help me at all. I would also like the ability to use the same sprayer with a smallish )15 foot) boom for ground spraying. I went to the farm store, and they have multiple pumps, but I have no idea how to figure what pump I need etc etc.

Does anyone know of a source for info like that? I have the capability to build this darn thing, just no knowledge!

Thanks,

Darren

easiest way to build a tree sprayer is find an old fore truck for sale, smaller size pumper.
Some folks here at home had alot of trees to do and the hired hand got to looking and got it for around 1200 bucks, now its a tree sprayer and they use it during harvest if they have a field fire while the FD is on the way

That firetruck idea is a pretty good one for a larger operation, as I have seen them really cheap, but I just don't have the storage for something like that. I also would not be able to get it into the places it would need to go to spray what needs spraying. Neat idea though... my uncle has an old firetruck that just sits in his barn. Maybe he can use if for spraying over at his place.

Darren,

The following publication from Virginia Cooperative Extension should help. Plumbing Systems for Ag Sprayers>Link

If>Link you can find the gallons per minute output for the gun at different pressure settings then you can select a pump to meet your needs. Spraying Systems Co. also has much information on sprayer systems including parts and output charts. You need to be in the 60+ psi range to get good coverage on the trees. The gun you are looking at is rated for much more pressure but that would require a very expensive pump. Unless you are spraying commercially this would be overkill.

Scott,

Thanks for the link.. that has a lot of good information. I found a bunch of info on the site for Hypro Pumps, and I am now shooting for this layout:

8 hp B&S engine coupled via belt and pulleys to a 540 rpm / 580 psi diaphragm pump, using a long distance adjustable spray gun and a 55 gallon spray tank. I should be able to get 40 - 50 feet of spray distance without having to overburden the engine at all.

Now off to spend $$ :)

Thanks,

Darren
