It seems funny to me that King kutter only makes their implements with cat 1 hitch's . I called three different stores today looking for a 8' hinged back box blade expecting them to be a cat 2 hitch due to the size . It didn't matter though as not one of the stores carried any 8' tools from King Kutter . 7' was on hand but 8' was special order . That was for any 8' tool . I asked about back blades and yard rakes ( York style/landscaping rake ) also .

I don't understand why a 8' box blade would be a cat 1 hitch though . Seems like a waste of metal . I've never used a King Kutter blade , are they that fragile that they don't want them on a larger ( 85 - 95 HP ) tractor ? My 1755 will reduce to cat 1 easy enough but I don't want to rip the blade apart if it can't take it . Good used heavy duty box blades that I can afford are seemingly nonexistant . I'm not in a big hurry to get one but it's frusterating that I haven't had any to even look at . Like post hole diggers they just aren't available around here . Anybody know of any good brand of cat 2 hinged back box blade that is $800 or less for an 8'-er ? I know ---I'm dreamin ! Take care ...Randy

Hi , How wide is your's ? I know that tsc had one out that had a bolt on three point hitch arrangment . We have one at work and except for the hitch it looks sturdy for a little thing ( it's only 4' ) . The bolts are only 9/16" . We used it behind a 301 Deere for landscaping around the bridges we built . But it hasn't been used now for at least 7 years . The 301 is a 35 horse tractor I think with turf tires so it didn't overwork it either but to my knowledge the scarifiers were never used . We found out that a 12" I-beam about 10' - 12' long chained to the bucket on the big excavator ( track hoe as some call it ) did a better job and quicker . If needed you could hook the teeth of the bucket inside the flange of the I-beam and press down and pull it to cut the high spots of loose dirt and move dirt where you wanted it . Then just lift it up swing it back away and drag it around to pulverize and smooth the dirt . It works great - if you have a excavator ;) . Take care ...Randy

The one I used to use was 7'. I used to bring it home from work till I found a blade of my own for the right price. I read your earlier post about ripping stumps with it. I dont know if they would stand up to 7" dia. stumps or not. It might if the stumps were rotten.

No , stumps would be still growing . I probably won't get them cut down till later in the summer or next fall . I might go out there and ring them all with the saw so they die back some this summer but till I have the time to clean it all up and have the blade to groom the area when I'm done I won't even start . ...Randy

Hi Ron . The local Case/IH dealer sells Woods . I'm sure they want a first born child for anything that they sell . The Agco/Allis dealer sells Landpride and Deere sells what else - Deere . Ihaven't talked with any of them yet because as I said I'm not in that much of a hurry to get one and I'm hoping one will come up at an auction . I'll want it by this fall so I can uproot about 75 - 100 maple sapling stumps up to about 7 inches in diameter . It'll take me all summer just to get them all cut down and burned . Can't even give away soft maple wood around here for firewood . Nice steady rain for the last two days so I can't get out to cut any this weekend . Tried to work on the plow between heavier showers but gave up . Take care ...Randy

Not to change subjects, but I am looking for a blade as well. At least a 10'. Anyway I went to a local dealer and I was looking at a new 10' 3pt box blade that was heavy built and was $750. The dealer asked me why I wanted it though. He had pull type box blades that hooked to the drawbar, and had a cylinder and two guage wheels on the back. He told me these were much better, gave better results, easier to use, etc. I have used a smaller (6') 3pt box quite a bit but have never even seen one of these pull types. Any thoughts on which is better? I can see how the pull type might work better as it can float on its own, but it seems it would be a pain to back up.

As to the King Kutter line, I think they just market their stuff to the average small tractor owner that goes into tractor supply looking for something. There stuff isn't the best quality, but in many cases it will work fine as a lot of the people that buy it are not using it hard. For what it sounds like you are doing I would look for another brand, and I am sure you can find what what you are looking for in the $800 range or less.

The IH dealer has one of those drag types ( it's HUGE ! ) they use to do their drive , maybe it's a demo unit I don't know , but I agree with you , backing would be the issue and I don't think that those are able to cut while backing but once again I don't know for sure . They use it at the county tractor pull track after every couple of runs and it does a good job at that . Another point is that I want the rippers on mine and that unit didn't have them . Imho , the purpose of a box blade with a hinged back blade is to level/smooth/dig going forward and smooth/level and act as a dozer going backward plus other things of course . The idea was presented on this forum I believe about uprooting stumps/rocks with it . ( Disclaimer to all the saftey police ;') - I'm a professional driver on a closed course - don't try this at home ! ) I never considered that but it sounds good to me since I don't have a loader and can't afford one and will have 75 - 100 stumps 7" diameter and smaller to remove this fall . Might be a little tough on it though that's why I want a heavy duty wide one . It'll have to do multiple tasks including moving snow which I know they aren't the best at but I plan on putting adjustable shoes on the rear side corners to help prevent moving too much other than the snow while pushing it . What brand did you find that had one 10' wide ? I don't want one that wide ( 8' will hide the tire tracks and fit my drive ) . That sounds like it's bordering on constuction equipment for behind one of those big steiger 4 + 4 x 4's :) Take care ...Randy

I know Maple and Pine are 2 completely different trees, but this spring I pulled out 7 pine tree stumps in his back yard with the 1855 (loaded w/ weights on the front, weighs a total of 13,300) Some were about 8-10". Put it in gear and walk right out with them. Maples go down more than out, where as the pines were all just rooted straight out for the most part. 5 of 7 I pulled in 4th gear. Had to drop a little for the other 2. Take your time and have a good chain and you may just be able to pull them out, but then again they may be a little harder than that.

I'm gonna go after 2 15" stumps that have been dead for 5 years in the feild one of these days. They get covered in the tal grass and I can't see them until I'm right on top of them. Donovan from Wisconsin

Hi Don , I don't know how these maple roots are either . But pine roots do generaly spread out rather than down . Helps when you have to transplant them . It's fun pulling tree stumps out isn't it ?

How much added weight you think you have on that tractor ? My 1755 weighs over 12,500 with the cast rims and fluid in the 18.4-34's . I just added a measly 2 starters and one stacker weight to it to bring that up by another 385lbs .

I drug down a windblown maple a couple weeks ago in the yard that had a trunk diameter of about 5'-6' . It was hollow but it was still enough to make the wheels make ruts about 5' long before I got it all the way on the ground . After it hit the ground I couldn't move it any more . I was pulling in 1 low on the three speed . Could have used duals there ! Take care ! ...Randy

Our 1855, loaded 18.4-38's and no weights was 12,400(3/4 tank). After I added the starter weight, a stack, 4 slabs, and the Rops/canopy, it weighs in at 13,300 (1/2 tank). I think the tires lost some fluid over the years (leaky stem, fixed it now...) so I'm guessing once we finally put new rubber on it it'll weigh a few extra pounds.

I think it was last year I was helping my brother pull some trees out of the (neighbors) woods with our little 165 massey. One tree fell into the crotch of the next one. The little girl grunted, dug in, and pulled them both down. They were atleast 12" in diameter. It was a very hard pull and definately didn't go anywhere once the second tree cracked and came down. OOPS!!! that other tree wasn't supposed to come down....

Hi Don , I guess I should go get the beast weighed then . I was really just estimating the total weight assuming full tires . It doesn't really matter but it would be nice to know for sure .

Yeah , me and trees don't see eye to eye very often when I'm cutting them . If I wedge them so they'll fall where I want them they always go just where they want to ,usually into all the trees I don't want to hurt . Needless to say I try and get out of cutting standing trees 8-)> Take care ...Randy

Here is a link that looks identical to the ones I was looking at, but I do not think they were this brand. Neither the 3pt or the drag I saw had rippers, but it looks like it is an option

Thanks daveyy ! Those are exactly what I was looking for ! The 4C5 style is the one . But it's only rated for up to 85 HP . Ya think my 3 - 5 extra HP would void the warranty if there is one ? HA - HA ! Thanks again ! ...Randy
