Disk Cut Down

I have a disk that I'd like to narrow down so it will fit crosswise on my trailer so I won't have to wrestle it on lengthways. It's a drag behind light disk of some kind. I've heard that you can cut them down. Is this much of a job? What would I need to do?

Thanks for the ideas, all. I think I'll modify the trailer instead by tapering off the side rails at the back, then just drag it up on there behind the tractor and let one disk on each side hang over the side.

HAS, here is a real saver method for you. Some people cut the threaded end of the axle and then have to get a machine shop to cut down and re-thread it, which is expensive, and VERY difficult to get the right length. Assuming your axle threads are OK, then I always cut the other end of the axle off. Assempbl the gang with the cut end of the axle sticking out. Put the nut and washer on the other end, and only tighten up aoubt 1/2 nut deep on end of thread. Now push everything up together as tight as you can get it. Now slide a new end piece over the cut end of the axle. Now weld the end piece on, then cut off the excess axle. Finally tighten the nut up. Now you are as good as new and the axle is exactly the correct length. Post back if you need more details. Tom in Texas.

any way you could put it on a piece of plywood & slide it in the trlr?

I have a winch in the front of my stock trlr. If the horses cannot back the piece of equipment in I winch it in.

No wheels - A blade or two on each end. Won't need to modify the frame or bearing supports. Just deal with the shaft and disks.

Probably help to know make & model....

Can we assume it has no wheels at all, & is not 3pt?

How wide is it, & how much do you wish to cut it down to? Are we talking a foot off each side, or 4 feet? Will we need to make the frame narrower, or just a blade or 2 on each end?
