Since haying season will soon be on us I decided yesterday because we had just gotten a good rain it would be an ideal time to do field surveys. I would normally do this with the 4 wheeler but decided instead to throw the saddle on old Roxie and do it from horseback.
I had forgotten what a pleasure it is to ride out and do it this way and makes me wonder why I stopped. You sure get a better view of whats going on on the ground and across your fields. I would really recommend this to anyone with large hayfields. If you haven't done it this way try it..... ..Good luck to all.

Hey Bob, There ain't nothin' better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse. Like my little friend once said when we were out riding, "I could live like this"

Even bad boys are just as good as they can be

Good idea, saving fuel also. I havent ridden horse more than 2 times in the last 18 years. Each time I wish I had horse or two for the kids to enjoy as well as my self, horseback journeys are very enjoyable, but I dont know enough about them so I am best not having them.

I do the same thing, it is very enjoyable for the wife and I. This time of year it is nice cause the flies aren't out to bad yet, but come the middle of may the flies really bug the horses and they get upset.

Hey Luke,
Have you ever tried using those "Fly predators"?
They work great for me, 'corse there isn't any other animals except for dogs close to me.

I just started that checking the alfalfa on horseback myself. My old palamino just turned 38, and haven't rode him for years, but I boot up on one of my granddaughters quarter horses that we keep here. It's fun! They ain't as smooth as old nugget was, but turn a heck of a lot sharper. I know that some day I'm gonna be lookin' left when he turns right and I'll get a real close look at the alfalfa!
