Roller barrel or ?

I was at a implement dealer to day, he had a 24 foot outfit, danish tines on front and a follower with heavy wire rolling "barrels" in place of flex harrow tines. It was made in Canada. Any one know what this is? Can it be used in rocky ground? I always seem to roll up lots of softball rocks, a few larger, lots smaller. I thought it ought to make a nice seed bed. ??

those are rolling basket harrows,used to break up clods. Several in fence rows here that fad came went really fast. Finiskers with the heavy flex harrow with really long teeth are the most popular. Anth ing that will not handle trah residue is in the fence roiws in my area,simple as that. I have a disc mulcher for sale that works great for preping ground for seeding if it has been plowed. It is same as cultimulcher except that it has row disc gangs in the front part. does really nice job in those situations. The other comment about 100,000.00 dollar planter thats nothing new 24 row new unit went to field yesterday after assembly,over that figure. good used two year old units still bring 65 to 80 thousand. Had over 500,000 thousand setting in drive way last week after assembling. 12 row unit are becoming a rarity here also.

Thanks, I wondered about using it in rocks. Guess I need that packer of Allans, hmmmm.. Maybe I could get it and swap him, he sure dont have any rocks. I thought he was preparing a bowling green or golf course from his picture. lol! Bob

You are closer than ya think.

Those roller-basket outfits are just the latest wrinkle in the "Support Your Local Machinery Dealer" game. Lots of guys around here have 'em and they do the same job as my old junker, but they're fer darned sure a lot prettier. :>)

Read this morning where a fellow had a $100,000 corn planter. My ol' pee brain can't even go there. I keep thinkin', "Why"? :>)

Okay, I gotta go hook up my 50-year-old two section harrow behind the little 11 foot grain drill. :>)

I think they're called rolling baskets or something like that. Used in place of a tine harrow behind a tillage machine. They break up clods, but I wonder if rocks don't get stuck in them. If you're seeding grain or grass, I think pulling a packer- either cast or rubber tire type, would give you a field surface and squash the rocks down.

Those are known as rolling baskets around here. they are really popular but we don't have alot of rocks.
