Pros Cons on a IH 990 Mower Conditioner

Need a little advice. I looked at a IH 990 Mower conditioner the other day. Priced seemed OK ($1,000.00) But I don't know a thing about the machine. Good points or bad. The only experience I have had with mower conditioners has been a New Holland 477. What should I look for as far as weak points? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks guys, I'll pobably go by there this weekend & get em to hook it up & run it for a bit. Also going to look at a NH 489.

I have one that I have used the last few years. I like it because the rolls spread apart when raised so they will unclog. I haven't had any trouble with it. I just bought a disc mower. If I like it I'll sell my 990, a lot cheaper than that.

they are good mowers and work really well if they are in good shape. you will need to look at the wobble box(pitman drive for the mower knife) mounts underneath it see if they have cracked this is a common problem with theses mowers but can be welded easily if you have the ability to do the job. also look at the crushing rolls and ask if the bearings have been replaced. mine had the bearings go bad and it cost me $1,000 to have them replaced. other than these issues they are excellent machines and if this one is in good shape that is a really good price for it.

Rollers are stacked chopped rubber and last a lot longer than the NH vulcanized rollers.
