Hi All! I plowed for the first time ever Saturday ! Tractor ( Oliver 1755D ) and plow ( Oliver 565 4x16 ) did a super job . Turned over corn stubble at a plow day meeting . I worked the field with 4 other tractors , all JD's ; a 80 diesel , a R , a 730 diesel and a 830 diesel ( at least I think it was a 830 ) for about 6 hours . The plow did a super job but that was with only 3 of the 4 bottoms cutting and turning . I couldn't get my stop bolts loose on the power adjust wheels on the tractor so with the wheels to close together the front bottom was only cutting about a 4" furrow with the wheel in the furrow , I still have to work on that . The biggest problem is that very same front bottom hit a rock that broke the tip off the share back to the second bolt and took it completely off the frog and in the process bent the tip of the frog back about 3/4" starting at the second bolt hole were the share broke ( it tripped but that didn't save it ) . After taking the share off I found that it had happened before to the extent that it got cracked and was straightened and welded . Should I look for another frog or do you think I could get this one straightened and welded right this time since it cracked again . The weld looks like a blind child did it . Actually I'd like to change the everything from the beam down . I think that this plow was bought as a 3 bottom and the front one was added later because it doesn't match the back three . But for now what to do about the bent frog because there's another plow day coming up in two weeks . Any suggestions ? Thanks ! ...Randy

How long will it take you to get the piece repaired? it may take longer than that to get a new piece and if you can get it fixed to use before the new one could come in you would have it to use and besides adjusting the wheel tread there is an adjustment on the lower link cross bar to acomidate the different wheel treads, to get the proper draft you will need to widen the tread out but if you have enough weight on the front end to accomidate the side draft you will get by with the narrower wheel tread, you can get by with the narrower tread by adjusting that cross bar.

Thanks Leroy . I don't know yet if it can be fixed . I was hoping someone here has had some experience with this . I haven't called to find out if a new one is still available or not . I thought about moving the hitch over but it will only gain me about 3" . I have about 385 lbs of weight on the front and with the hitch where it is now I didn't have the feeling that it wanted to pull sideways . I'm going to work on the wheels tomorrow , tonight I took the frog off the plow and hope to get enough time tomorrow at work to take it to the blacksmith to see if it's worth fixing . Thanks again ! Take care ...Randy

I think you will have to find a parts yard to get a used one. If you remember back when you were looking to buy and wondering if you should I am the one that gave you the list of questions to ask yourself about if it was a good by or not and after you got it I am the one that told you how to set it up for the draft to pull correct and you should have 35" from centerline of tractor to inside edge of right tire but you can't get that wide of a wheel tread so you need to set it for cultivating width on wheel tread and that would be for like the plow I had 4-14" a 76" wheel tread and your plow is 8" wider than mine was so you need to go for the 80" wheel tread that was the widest tread avaible on a cultivating tractor as yours would be unless it was a special order tractor for some odd crop that required a wider tread and after you get the wheel tread set just use the slide on the cross bar to get your final setting for width so you are cutting the full 16" with that front bottom , you do not have to be in a field to do that, just hitch plow to tractor and have setting in a pull strait line and measure from share point to inside of tire and subtract 2" for bulge of tire and you should be close

Hi Leroy , I remember that ! And I used some of that advice but at crunch time some of it escaped from this brain before I could use it . So I got this plow last fall and it sat in the yard all winter and spring and I just went out last friday and started working on it . Then Saturday morning I was going to the kwik star store for milk and I saw a couple tractors pulling plows going down the road so I stopped them and asked what was up and that's how I ended up at the plow day . I didn't have any time to get it set up but I did the best I could .

The owners manual also said to set the wheels to 60" to 62" inside to inside . I can get that width with the hubs set the way they are now as soon as I get the stop bolts to loosen . I didn't get to work on it tonight as I had hoped to .

The blacksmith in town is going to fix the frog for $15 . He's the last of his kind around here . He's been a smithy for around 50-60 years now , the son of a smithy . Turns out I have the high speed bottoms , not the general purpose . And the problem I found out about today is that shins for the high speed bottoms aren't available at the farm and fleet's so I may have to get them from AGCO . I can get another 565 plow that was offered to me on saturday for $300 and I'm really considering it . A new frog costs $325 from AGCO .

As soon as I get those stop bolts loose I'll let you know how wide I can get the wheels . They are 18.4x34 with fluid and cast centers so they are HEAVY and I really don't want to turn them around and put the hubs to the inside . I shouldn't have to . Thanks ! Take care ....Randy

Supprise that they even list a new frog, and that other plow would be cheaper than the one repair part. I think the repair will hold. Leroy

The repair cost a bit more than he quoted but it wasn't bad . It was a really good repair . He re-hardened it too . It's all back together with the old shins , so it's usable . Since the repair is done I think I'm going to get the shins from AGCO even though they are pretty pricey . Ran out of daylight before I had a chance to work on those wheel bolts . Take care ...Randy
