Trip plow tire sliding

I have a 3 bottom Little Genius trip plow on rubber that is starting to give me problems. I plowed about 5 acres last without any problems but today when I went to plow my garden plot the tire on the clutch lift would slide along the ground. The ground I plowed last week was last years corn stubble and the garden plot was sod. The tire that's on it is an old truck tire. Could it be that it just wasn't getting enough traction on the sod?

Those old clutch lifts worked great on two bottom plows, but as the number of bottoms increased slipping became a greater problem. The plow would have had a traction type tire on that wheel when new. I also agree the springs probably need adjustment. All three of those factors are probably contributing to your problem.

After this many years the springs may have lost all tension and adjustment may not help. You plowed under the corn field conditions then grass became your problem, from that you know the problem is not great. I'd try the traction thing first. 50 years ago it wasn't unusual to see operators with a wheel chain even on a traction tire in real greasy conditions.

Very likely you've not got enough traction. Could try a corser tread tire, or even a tire chain. Have seen the old-timers use both.

Most likely not enough traction,might put tire chain on have had some success doing that. kj

I'm not familiar with your plow, but generally if the land wheel slips when trying to lift plow you need to tighten tension on the lift spring.
