Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum and need some help identifying backhoe attachments that will fit a MF1240, 4wd, with a 1246 loader. I've surfed for hours and can't seem to find any solid info. Any suggestions?

The backhoe that came from Massey for that tractor was a MF 1217. A MF 1475 will also fit with the correct subframe and was the one that replaced the 1217 when the 1400 series tractors came out. Always use a subframe and never a three-point hitch type on a compact tractor.

Thanks Jerry. Sorry I didn't read this first! Those model numbers will come in handy. I'm convinced that a subframe is the way to go. If I went with the TPH, I'd worry constantly. Have a good weekend.

I know that I would also worry without a subframe. I have never seen a MF compact broken, but have seen other brands. If you need anything else, check out www. tractor by net. com for compact tractor information.

If that is a newer compact type of tractor, there is a good web site I can't link you to - this site doesn't like mentioning other similar type sites....

Would be it, no spaces.

Many smaller compacts do better with a frame-mounted backhoe, as a 3pt will be hard on the transmission case, could possibly crack the tranny area. Just something to think about.

There are a zillion 5,6,7 foot backhoes made by many manufaturers, will adapt to your tractor.

Now, I'm not so familiar with MF, Oliver was the favored color here & MF has few dealers..... So if I am way off base & you have a diff tractor than I am thinking, sorry. How big/ new is your tractor?

Thanks Paul. The tractor is a 98 with 4wd, 28 hp with 22 at the PTO. I've had it for a year or so as a gift from my father. Always learning so I appreciate the info. I take it that the frame mounted version is the way to go. It runs around a thousand more from what I can gather. I just don't want to cause another problem by trying to get out cheap.

Says 4wd. Sounds like a little 5 or 6' backhoe from any of the dozen or so manufaturers would work, a frame mount bracket might be something to look into. Cheaper to use exsisting hyd on the tractor if you have a rear set of ports, can get a pto pump & resivor for more $$$.
