I tried quite extensively a couple years ago to try and get someone to cop to building that baler, as I also have one, and nobody could really say who made it. I had always heard that it was made by NI, but when I went into their orginization, we couldn't find anything that would cross, anything that looked similar or anything else. I had my local NH dealer fairly deep into their technical people, and the best answer they could come up with was that Ford built the baler.... but they couldn't produce any engineering drawings either.... So all I turned up was more questions, and I was no further ahead in tracking down the parts I needed, so I ended up making what I needed. I think if you look very closely at the knotters, you'll see that they bear a very striking resembelance to the older NewHolland knotters, including the needle yolk, but they have a different drive system. So as best I can figure, Ford did some assembling with a lot of outside parts, but built the frames themselves. Most of the outsourced type parts are still available, at a cost, from NH. I've found that any parts related to the frame/structure of the baler are NLA.
The only suggestion I could make with regards to the NewIdea rumor is to get several NI balers of that vintage and compare them. Mabey they do match up.... but that's not the answer I got from NewHolland technical, and I couldn't find an AGCO dealer that was willing to look too deep. They just didn't really want to be bothered on a goose chase like that. It may be a baler that NI built specially for Ford, and doesn't match anything in their own product range from that time too.
