I posted this over on Smoke Stack and did not get much of any replies. Anybody know of a site for the old corn shellers like some of us over 50 had to crank when we were kids on the farm. I have several 2 hole shellers and am looking for some more informations especially if they have a cob elevator. Thanks. J.

I have a sheller. Takes a shovel of corn at one time. It is belt driven.

I doubt you will get a lot of replys anywhere. Not too many guys messing with shellers. I never saw a hand-crank sheller with an elevator but yeah, some of the 2-hole and larger had them. Our club has an old machine that we demonstrate.

Looks like me but that is impossible, we never had wall outlets when I was that age.

Geezus, that kid looks just like my youngest son..probably is!

I have 2 shellers, mounted 1.5 HP motors on both. Talk about making quick work of an ear of corn!ZIP! Now if I just had chickens to feed.....

I got PLENTY chickens to feed. Next time you feel like playing with your sheller just sweep up the mess and leave it on my drive....in bags would be nice.

Dave,

Just drive on down with a load of corn and you can run both of them at the same time..hehe! The JD is a 1B and it came with a factory motor mount, man I got it from said they bought it new in 1943! The other one, I have no idea what it is. The frame is wooden and it had been used so much without ever being oiled, the cast iron bearings were worn through! I tore it down and installed sealed bearing pillow blocks, rebuilt all the bad wood, gave it a coat of red paint and luckily, found a 21" V pulley at a tractor scrap yard. Then I added a new 1.5 horse capacitor start motor (3450 rpm). The reduction is about perfect..1.5"x21". It runs smoother than the JD with sleeve bearings and obviously requires no oiling. Before anybody asks why I used such a stout motor..or why I didn't use a 1750 rpm motor.....I tried a 3/4 HP and it didn't impress me. Shopping for motors on ebay, I found 1.5 HP motors as cheap as 1 HP's and the 1750 rpm motors are in greater demand and cost more.
