There are no model numbers on it that I can find. The guy I purchased it from says it was a 4 row cut to a two row. It is a pull type with a hydraulic cylinder. It has rubber press wheels in the back, and the big fertalizer boxes up front.

At first I thought it was a 494 or 1240. However, I noticed the big fertalizer boxes up front on those models are WIDER than mine. The basic look is the same, but mine are narrower. Now the 24b's I have seen have the narrower boxes, but all of the 24b's that I have seen are the two row three point models. Did JD make a 24B 4 row pull type planter? Thank you in advance.

Nate

I had a 1240 4 row and the only thing I can think of that was diffreant than a 494 was it had tractor tread drive tires and I think the 494 used auto or imp. type tires.

Somebody might have cut down a 694-A 6-row and used the two small fertilizer hoppers that were on the outside two rows to straddle the hitch for the center two rows you have left.

Tim,

Thanks for the response.

The fertalizer boxes are not stratteling the hitch. There is one on each side of the hitch. They fit perfectly, it's not like they are slapped in there where a wider box should be. It's looks like they were mfg that way.

I used the wrong word. I meant on either side of the hitch, not straddle it. That"s what you have, two 1-row fertilizer boxes off a 694-A. First two rows on either side of hitch of the 6-row machine used a big box, like the 4-row planter. Then they stuck this little 1-row hopper on each outer row. Fits in perfectly because it uses the same drive shaft and mounts that the big box did.
