This is what our spring tooth looks like, anybody else have one? We found a company called WAKO (I think they're in Oklahoma) that makes the teeth we need for a pipe frame. 2002 catalog lists them for about $16.

Looks similar to the one that dad had when I was in high school except his was a john deere. We pulled 32 ft of it in the spring to break the crust of the ground up and to keep the ground from drying out in the spring before we got it seeded. Bought the spikes from john deere.

Sure I have one made in Blackwell OKLA by Blackwell Steel Products I think they sold out to Speed King and the Speed King ones look Identical to mine even the green and white color's. It is made very much like yours with the round pipe. Unless the ground has along of residue they are an excellent field finishing tool. Lots of them around here mine is 18ft wide. Very good harrows.

they have no value in my area. won't handle trash, basically new style dump rake. Several sitting in buddies crush yard as they get dumped in just to get rid of them.

The moldboard plows are not used in my area much at all. Chisels plows or deep rippers. To much residue on top for those to work period simple as that. Moldbaords plows are another item that ends up scrapping. Big 7 bottom on land nice plow always shedded last fall brought $300.00. i have a very nice 6 bottom and its not worth anything either. the only thing they worth is to people who want to pretend they farm then you can sell them, funny thing is they then call you back and say how do I do this. Price fuel nowdays can't afford to moldboard for sure now anyway.

Bingo, there ya go; never thought of that.

There are lots of guys raising dry beans in this area, so there are still lots and lots of plows running. Probably why they are so darned expensive around here too.

Thanks,

Allan

Rick,

Dry edible beans.

They have to be cut at night when the dew is down. The knives run about 2" under the ground and trash just absolutely messes up the program, both in cutting and when combining, so the fields have to be clean.

These fold-back springtooth cultivators used to the the implement of choice here in Kansas wheat country. Now the modern field cultivator has reduced their value considerably; at auction they often go for less than $100. You see one being used occasionally but since the field cultivator works so much better, most are just parked behind the hedge row.

I see that the nameplate on yours says "Moridge". This was made in Moundridge, Kansas, about ten miles from where I live. This company is still in business and produces the Grasshopper line of zero-turn lawn mowers.

It"s not really the spring tooth part, just the brand and style w/ the round pipe. Around these parts most are knowles or other makes, but they all have a square tube or an angle bracket of some sort to mount to. We have a Glencoe culitvator w/ levelers on the back we used to use, but it"s to small behind our 1855 as it"s only about 14 ft. We also have 2 other glencoes, one w/ wings on it but no levelers, and the other is set up for cultivating pumpkins.

As far as the Moridge goes, I did a little research when we first got it and found out what you just said, that they went to lawn mowers and couldn"t help me at all. I still don"t know what dealer would have sold these in my parts, but I did see one other machine like ours at a consignment auction about 30 miles from our place.

Nobody really knows how to set them up so I"m learning on my own a little bit at a time. The other one we saw also had an 8" cylinder on it, but it requires a 10" stroke just to lift it to be able to lock it into place. I also recently figured out how you"re supposed to set the depth and things like that, so I think I"ve got the whole thing figured out now.

Still can"t find teeth for it locally unless they are off a 50 year old worn out IH spring tooth section, although one Massey dealer did have 4 new teeth in stock. They were gonna look them up and try to find more but that never happened. They never heard of the brand either so I guess they didn"t sell them, and no other place I"ve been to has heard of them or heaqrd of a pipe frame spring tooth other than way back when...
Sorry for the long post....

Same, but different. Mine has square toolbars; think the salesman told me it was a "Kent" brand?
