I'm not sure what is causing this . the bailer work fine for a while then the needle lift sheer pin will sheer. Sometimes I can bale 50 bails and some times it will happen after 5 or 10. It probably is a timing issue but since I dont have a manual at this time any input would be helpful. I know I have time befor bailing starts I just want to be ready.
Thanks,
Jerry

Check your knotter clutch adjustment, It may not be tight enough and allowing your needle carrieage to fall forward slightly inbetween tying, this will trip the plunger safety stop and cause a shear. And in addition to that adjust your plunger stop linkage, that could simply be out of adjustment.

Take a look at the arm that rotates to lift the needles. We fought a timing problem on a 14T for hours and it turned out to be a wobbled out hole in that arm. It was worn enough to screw up the timing. Took it to the smithy and put in a brass bushing.

When we got our 14T, Dad was in his glory when he realized that the whole knotter assembly was the same as he was used to from the binder days. I do want to point out, for those that don't know, that the needles are made of maleable iron so they can be straightened or re-shaped if necessary to align them correctly to the knotters. We used to take them to the JD shop so they could shape it to a new needle, then we bought one new needle to keep as a pattern. Both needles should be shaped the same, then properly adjusted.

Overall, the 14T is a good baler.

JD still sells the book for them. I had the same problem on one years ago but don't remember what was wrong with it and I don't have the manual handy right now

From Operator's Manual "OM-E21-454" 14T Baler...

SHEARED NEEDLE LIFT PIN:

Needle brake set too tight

Needles out of time

Needles hitting obstruction

Obstruction in knotter mechanism

Needles out of adjustment

I would add too loose a needle brake will allow the needles to drift from home. Particularly if tieing at slower pto rpm.
