brush hog slip clutch

Just got my first slip clutch for a five foot brush hog. To what extent can I adjust the pressure on the slip discs? Or should I just leave it where Tisco set it?

If you know who the manufacturer of the unit is, call them up and have them give you the spring height required for the proper tension on the clutch. Once you have that you can keep it adjusted properly. I take the tension off my clutch in the Winter and readjust it to the proper spring height in the Spring.

I wouldn't adjust the slip clutch until I had used the machine. A new one should not require any adjustment to the slip clutch. If the machine is used it may need some adjustment, but as I said I'd try it first. The last thing you want to do is get it too tight and break something on the machine or in the tractor.

Thanks, Bill. I won't tighten it, but I was wondering about the possibility of loosening it a bit since the clutch may be a bit oversized.

I've got a bushhog I bought with my old ford 3000 was going to start using it soon ,It didn't have a slip clutch ,Should I be getting one?

nothing wrong with a shear pin setup, as long as you have aa actual shear type bolt in there

stumps or big rocks or bedsprings are hard on the pins

if you set your clutch too losse, you will hear the blades stop turning and smoke comes out, cinch the bolts down a bit (evenly)
