When Should I use Stabilizers?

Hi Everyone, I've been bush-hogging stuff down at my farm and I was wondering if should be using stabilizing bars? The rotary mower that I've been using sometimes will swing to the side when I have it raise to avoid an obstruction.

Should I use one or two? I realized that my tractor has one bracket on the right already that I have to get a new prong for and brackets.

Thanks,

Christos

I use 'em with everything except plows and cultivators (with coulter). Definately with a bush hog. I'd use 2 if you can. They tend to bend with just one. I prefer the heavier adjustable stabilizer bars, but the flat bar type will suffice.

Christos: I prefer 3 point hitches with 3 options stabilizers, limiters that will limit the side movment and nothing. Stabilizers are almost a must with pto driven eq, blades, etc.

Tillage tools you must remove stabilizers as you cant steer with them in ground. Limiters do give some control on side movement yet allow you slacken it enough so you can steer. This allows you to make steering corrections on the field, but not designed to let you go around turns.

I use them with my brush hog becuase I cut on a few small grades and the mower always wants to move sideways, likewise, when I make a turn it's nice to have the mower stay straight. I also use them with my boom pole and back blade. I've been told not to use them when plowing as you want the plow to be able to move a bit
