MY BROTHER IN LAW HAS A NEW IDEA 14A MANURE SPREADER. THE FEED CONVEYOR HAS BROKEN A LINK. MY QUESTION IS, WHERE IN THE WORLD CAN YOU GET A FEW EXTRA CHAIN LINKS. A SEARCH OF THE WEB HAS BEEN DONE AND OF ALL THINGS, HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A SOURCE FOR A FEW LINKS. I THINK THAT THE NUMBER ON THE LINK IS >--7I--< OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. HELP IF YOU CAN. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Local dealers should carry that type of chain if you still cannot find it a company called EZ spread builds the New Spreaders [pull type and horsedrawn] under that name. These are amish companies that bought the stamps and dies from New Idea. If you need the address contact the Draft Horse journel @Drafthorsejournel.com They have listings for alot of suppliers of new [Old] machinery. Hope that helps Mike

We had checked with the local farm stores and parts stores in the area. Nothing was available by the link, they wanted to sell 10 ft sections. I agree that the chain is in a worn state and should be replaced completely. Maybe after he has had to unload by hand a few times, me may opt for a new chain. Thanks for all your help.

Any implement dealer or farm supply store (Fleet Farm, TSC, Farm & Fleet, etc etc....) should have it. I would go ahead and replace the whole chain on both sides because chances are the chain is very old, stretched and overall very weak compaired to new.
Otherwise, go to Shoup

Any farm store or implement dealer should have that. Called detachable flat chain. Check into buying the cast iron tool used with it- although a hammer and chisel do work too. Loosen the apron chain and hook a comealong between slats to hold things while replacing the link.

Times change. The last place I would look would be the internet!. How about an implement dealer in the neighborhood or some company that deal in old time hardware? Have you looked for an old New Idea dealer? Is this just a plain jane straight link and not a right or left to which a slat attaches? Steel chain has standard dimensions. Also unlock your caps lock too the next time you post. Questions?
