Twine Prices on the increase! Again

We are getting calls from TX over 1000 miles from us trying to find Sisal Twine. Our market price has gone from $26 to $36 for 16000 twine. Our price is still under $30 but sales are brisk and eventually we will be up with the market. Buy Twine early because we've called all the large twine producers and 60% of them are sold out for the season.

Hi Dave, I was thinking the same thing, I guess if we all run out and start buying twine the price will go up. Hay DR must own a lot of shares in a twine company...they do this with oil too don't they?..... Mike in Exeter Ontario

Twine is not a product that can be sold on the net because of the weight to value ratio. Sisal Twine is not logistically feasible for one dealer to sell small amounts of twine to processors. To me a small amount of twine is less than 300 bales of twine. There is a shortage of sisal twine shipped into the USA this year based on the normal usage. The main purpose I posted is Northern hay producers haven't started purchasing twine yet, it is not on their minds and if they show up late they may be forced into plastic twine.

Funny you mention that Mike, 'cause I was thinking of it while I wrote that post. I noticed the gas prices been sneaking up little by little the past couple of weeks. Personally, I think it is to make it look like less of an increase when they hit us with the pre-Memorial Day increase here in the states. A Michigan tradition to raise the gas prices just as people start heading north for the summer.

That's strange because our farmers exchange is buried in it and its well under 30 dollars for Green Valley. I did buy 20 bales the other day but not because I thought there would be a shortage..... ...
