I have a JD 1219 Mower. What sections to use for Alfalpha/Brome mix? Plan, under or over serrated? Is it worth it to change the bar over to bolts or save a few dollars and stay with rivets? Any suggestions?? Thanks, Bob

overserrated are self-sharpening. and I still use rivets. I hate the bolts. And I'll challange anyone to a timed trial of changing sections in the field.

No arguement from me, just curious. How are rivets faster than bolts? I've only ever changed riveted sections with the knife out of the mower so I don't really know the process of doing it with the knife in the mower. The bolts are darn quick though. Most of the time a 7/16" wrench and one minute will do it. Josh

Tiger jaws or the double toothed sections work great but the singles work good too. Definitely use bolts though. If you have any problems in the field you can fix it twice if not faster than with rivets.

I have a NH haybine, but I like top-serrated sections. I cut grass, alfalfa, and mixed hay and they work well in all. I've seen sections with larger serations (super 7?) which were supposed to be good in alfalfa. I tried them once and found that they wouldnt cut fine grass very well. I have bolted sections and like them. If you break a section, you can fix it in a minute and be back to mowing.
