THERE IS AN AUCTION COMING UP THIS SATURDAY AND THEY HAVE A 605C VERMEER AND A 846 NH. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY INFO ABOUT EITHER OF THESE BALERS BEFORE I TRY TO BUY ONE? WHAT SIZE BALES AND WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF EACH. IN ADVANCE THANKS FOR YA"LL"S INPUT.IT WILL BE MOST HELPFUL.

well i got to get in to this. got C baler i will give to anyone who wants to deal with it. baled last time i used it 4 year ago . i have time to start a bale here in texas with dry hay with closed throught baler. would rather bale with belts than chains. went from a 74 c to 80s f to 90s super j, all vermeers will and BALE HAY when set up right and operator knows what thay are doing.a pit stop and lazer temp gauge every 40 or 50 bales will tell what bearings are doing,most bearings no problem to find or get from neighbor on weekend,most inter change.Cs put up a 6x6 bale,6x5 is best. i run sj and a f every week end from last of may till end of sept all dry hayhere in tx.looking at used M at this time. need more on what your baling and weather.

It depends on what you want in a baler. The C is closed throut, which means that the hay must be dry to bale. $500 would be about all it is worth. If you are doing more than 250 bales a year I would definitely be looking to an open throut. Parts would not be a problem with the Vermeer even though it is about 25 years old.

You would be better off having you hay custom bales that either of these balers. Age of this alone is against you. $500 would be a big price for either baler. They both can be made to bale hay but it might cost you more than what they are worth to purchase 30 year old technology likely in poor condition.

Gotta be really honest with ya. Think I'd just skip that auction, as I seriously doubt that you'd be happy with either machine.

There are way better balers out there.

I have a vermeer 605 H that has over the years baled a lot and still going strong. The 605 C is the closed throat and I would stay away from it. No personal experience with the NH, but have had friends that have one and in the other posts sums it up good. Depending on what you want to do, if you are going into selling hay you may want a 4 foot baler as it is easier to transport the bales.

we have a 605M the new vermeer, it makes 6 foot wide, 5 foot tall bales; hence 605; but it is one bad piece of machinery, my family has used vermeer and only vermeer for many years now and it always kept the cows fed so i suggest the vermeer, however i have never experienced a new holland round baler, only square balers by them, good luck and be inspectful before purchasing. also if your closest dealer for one or the other is a million miles away, let that be a deciding factor in your purchase.

The 'C' is a closed throat round baler, not so good. Material doesn't feed in so good. Wouldn't be worth $500.... I have a 605F, much better machine with the open throat.

The 84 NH is a chain baler, they are _real_ good for cornstalks & the like, but beats all the leaves off of alfalfa. Doesn't pack as tight a bale as a newer belt baler, but pretty good machine for grass hay & the like. Chains & bars are spendy, see that they have been taken care of.
