Hi Everyone,

Would a Massey-Ferguson Model 72 Plow (3-14) be too much for my tractor (MF 135)? I was looking at the Ford 101 plow, but its a little bit out of my price range, but I found the MF 72 at a used implement dealer a few miles away.

Was it a good model plow? I was going to use it for a .5 acre garden and field work. Its not a trip plow, so if I hit something am I as this one guy told me "going to chip my tooth or fly off the tractor..." if I go anything faster than 1st?

Since its all rusty and somewhat pitted, does that affect the price of what I should ask the owner for it?

Christos

I agree with everyone here. I have a 135 with the Z145 and a Dearborn 2-14 plow. The tractor has plenty of power, but traction limits you in tough soil. You've also got to make certain that you have the plow set up properly and that takes a little while. I wouldn't want to put a 3 bottom plow behind mine based on my experience. Tim

That is the model that was sold for that tractor and many places they would handle them but for the size area you are talking you would not get it adjusted till you were done, and I don't think that model is reduceable, (Would have to do some checking on that) to a 2 bottom and for that size plot a 2 bottom would give a lot better plow job.

A 43 MF plow is a good choice. It will pull 2-16s but no more. Good Luck.

Christo I have plowed a little with a MF 135 diesil 2x14 in heavy sod it was about all it wanted. IMHO you would be better off sticking with a 2 bottom. I have a 3x12 ford plow I would like to give away. Rust and condition are important along with proper setup. If you search you find a lot of info on plowing.
