was wondering if anyone had any advice on a good reliable and decent priced small square baler. I need to purchase one but havent had much use with anything except the old new hollands whick havent seen them make a tight heavy bale yet, and a heston inline whick is probably to expensive for my needs. Any opions on the best easy to fix reliable baler on the market? I dont have alot of experince with notters and i know they can be touchy to get set right. Any opions would be nice. Was also wondering if any one had interest in a vermeer r-23 side rake with the hydraulic run baskets would like to get rid of the one that i have and just find a inexpensive wheel rake.

Stick to New Holland, Best, then John Deere, all others forget, MF may be a good baler but never seen one around here so would be no service avaible same as any other make except the New Holland or John Deere

We have a NH 270 that will make good solid bales all day long. We recently bought a Hesston 4590 inline baler since our closest NH dealer is 50 miles away now. I don't know where you are located but I'm in SE Iowa and might be interested in using our 270 for a partial trade towards your R-23 rake. Our 270 baler has baled less than 100,000 bales (probably around 75,000) since it was new and we've baled 5,000-6,000 bales a year with it for the past three years with almost no problems.

Happy with our NH 268 Hayliner - Makes good bales, ties good knots. Runs with smaller tractors - JD B, Farmall 200.

the Massye #12 is a god baler, the #3 not so much. I think the other is a 9.... not sure though. The newer Massye balers are good too. We've had our 12 for 20 years, and only had touble with the knotters once, and the dealer fixed it up in their parking lot hooked to the back of our pick-up.

New Holland & JD figured out balers first and designs haven't changed much in 40+ years, parts are on the shelf in town. Any other brand of old machine might work, might not - kinda a crap shoot, parts might be around, might not.

I'm fond of 336 JD balers, they make a good bale. Even the older 14-T's are good machines if they've been kept up. I've heard some people swear by MF balers, but I've never been around one.

I've got a MF 120 and it'll pack a bail so full its not funny. You really have to be careful when setting the springs on the back to be sure it does not pack it to tight.
