JD 24 T baler

Does anyone have any experience with this baler and how it performs? I have the opportunity to get one that has been reworked and field ready.

Excellent choice. We have two 224T balers which is the same basic baler with a grease pump for the mechanism and supposedly some heavier duty parts. Never had cause to complain. The one we use all the time rarely misses a tie once it is up to speed. They are not going to be your high volume balers as they choke up if the row gets to heavy in relation to ground speed. A good operator can balance it out and keep going. Only trouble with the knotters comes when they get gunked up and the swiper can't move thru it's full range but they are easy to work on. Should be less than $1000 and clean and working.

i still use a 214t. deere still carries most, if not all consumable parts! rebuilt gearbox two years ago, new seals & some new bearings. i would not trade it for anything but a new deere.it won't make a loose bale, and they all come out the same lenghth. last time i spent time behind others, i was in highschool! spent alot of hours behind a n.h. hayliner, never had a good, solid bale come out!

The 24T is a good baler, it just depends on machine cost and how much hay you want to put up. If you are looking for a reliable, lower-capacity unit it's hard to beat a 24T (--NH fans don't beat me up too much). You can still get plenty of parts from Deere. Does it have a thrower/kicker?

Do a search and check old posts on the 24T, you'll find overwhelming support for this baler. Hope this helps.

If you want a good small square baler, Deere isn"t it. I love Deere tractors, but would never by any size square baler from them.

We had a 14T, neighbor had a 24T. Both good lower capacity baler. The mechanical kicker is not as good as the hydraulic kicker.
