Here is a link to the pics of the 44 plow I bought. Can someone look at the points and tell me (if you can) if they will work or do they need sharpened or replaced?

Link

Thanks BUDD

What you can't see on the picture is the underside of the share to tell if it is wore like a sled runner or if it is flat comming out to a knife blade edge with no sled runner. If it has the sled runner shape and I think it does then the harder the ground the less it will want to go in, if you can get a hold of a new blade type with deep suck compair the shape of the nose. If it is sled runner as I would suspect because there is not a corner on the front but round I can probably tell you how to sharpen it. They are pretty well wore down, the back one more so than the front. Going to 1/2 way back and clear at the back measure how wide the share is, they look to be down to amout 5" and new should be about 6 1/2". As long as the share will set on a flat hard surface, use a piece of plywood or similar and set the bottom down on it and see if there is at least a 1/4" clearance between any of the bolts or anything sticking down under the share you should be OK, if not you will need to edge the share to make it wider. While it is setting down would be a good time to check for that sled runner under the nose of the share, if it is not tight to the plywood then it will not go into hard ground and if it will go into softer ground if it has that sled runner efect then that would be trying to make that hardpan plow sole. I am the guy that told you how to measure it.

No reason why they shouldn't pull in to the ground and plow. When the point is worn off until it doesn't extend beyond the share- it's time to replace. They do need to clean up and shine before they scour- either wire brush or make a few rounds in sandy soil. Looks like the second bottom needs a bolt in the lower righbt corner of the moldboard. On later plows- that's where a replaceable shin would mount. Pix loolks like the moldboard protrudes above the plowshare- opposite of what it should be- will wear the moldboard. Might have to remove the whole moldboard to clean out the dirt buildup that is underneath it.

Thanks for your responce. I kinda thought it would plow, but was not sure at all. The guy that I normaly go to for this type of info is no longer with us.

I plan on cleaning up the moldboards and shares with a wire brush before I plow with it. I will look into the dirt behinh the moldboard and shear as you suggested.

Thank You ever so much BUDD
