We have a Lely Optimo 205 Disc Mower and have used primarily Lely blades. Last year I ran across an old blade with Lely logo on it and the blade was about a 1/4 inch narrower. We have had some problem with the blades slightly hitting each other and wonder if this could be the problem. I talked to Lely and they said the new blades are the only ones they have ever used. The new ones have the part number on them the old ones didn't. We also broke the shaft last year and the old shaft had a pretty good twist in it which would throw off the timing. I wonder if the new one is doing the same thing. Anyone else have this issue. What are the best blades to use?

If you have a slight twist in the shaft you still can adjust that out by tacking the cutter gear box head off with 4 bolts and re timing you mower with out disassembling the cutterbar. Usually on the 205 model you have to time the 1st and 2nd disc top dead center because they turn in the same direction. Lely has always used the 58699 & 58700 Vicon blades on their disc mowers. Now once upon a time Lely had a drum mower that used a different blade and you may have obtained one of them. If you like you Lely and it's time to trade you need to look at the HayMAXX disc mowers that use the same design with a 14mm hex shaft and use only a bolt to mount the blade not all the extra nickel & dime hardware that Lely's uses to attach the blades to the cutting disc.

I think the Lely still has some good life in it. We don"t have a big operation we put up about 11,000 bales per year here in Northern Nevada, mostly grass-clover mix. The Lely has been pretty trouble free except for a few top plates and a coulple of cutting units and the shaft breaking. We have been using Chevron Ultra Duty NLGI Grade 0 grease instead of the ESSO. I have been threatening to open up the gear boxes and see how everything looks before the season starts. Any suggestions on weak points to look for? The blades we have been using are Lely part#4.1201.1473.0 qn 4.1201.1474.0 are these the same ones. They seem to last better than the aftermarket ones. I appreciate any help.

There is no such thing as a Lely blade. Lely does not have a blade factory. There are 3 quality blade MFG"s and there are 3 other MFG"s that sell on price. The quality blade MFG"s use bearing steel in their blades.

I have been buying the blades directly from Lely with a Lely part number. I wonder who makes them. Where does one get the Vicon blades and how much are they?

Ha-ha! so that is why the Vicon disc mower blades and the Lely disc mower blades had the same part number! I thought they looked identical.
