I just bought a fasthitch single shank ripper for my Farmall 560. When is the best time of year to rip a grass hay field? How far apart? I assume I should rip across the flood irrigation flow.

When we had irrigated grass we ripped it in early spring or end of winter and depending on moisture and soil conditions if we ripped every 40 inch row or every other on 80 inches. I would say 3-6 ft. depending on soil conditions. We row watered then and had grass and hay on terraces so we ran down the furrow with ripper.
