JD 614 plow

Hi!
I had posted this on the john deere forum and I didn't get any replies.
The plow is a one bottom trailing plow.
It has a spot on the moleboard where it looks like it had cracked and been repaired.
What is it worth? How are they for plowing? Is the crack an issue? Thanks!

I agree with Leroy"s thought that you have a No. 51 plow, as 614 is indeed the beam number on that plow.

I can"t address how it might be for plowing with the repairs that have been made, but one of those plows along with a "43 John Deere "B" was a vast improvement over a team of horses and a walking plow (or two teams and a sulky plow). It was even better when we got the "B" re-powered, put on rubber and moved up to a 2-12" No. 52 plow.

I dont think you are correct in the model plow you have, is that number stamped in the top on a cast beam? If so that is the beam part number not a model number. I think you are loking at a model 51 plow that was orignally on steel wheels with a clutch lift with most being a 14" with some 12" or 16" and being made in the 30's-40's for the John Deere B or H tractors. And about all plowas of that age will have a large hole wore thru the moldboard toward the front and many have had a patch welded over that hole possible a couple of times and manny have had the back end of the moldboard broke off and welded back and used for years. And they go at auction for poor quality $150 and up, I think I heard of a restored one bringing around $700 once and yes they were a good plow.
