Hi!
I've just purcased a NH 65 sqaure baler, and I have a couple of questions.
Can plastic twine be used with satisfactorly?
Since this will be the first time I'll be making hay, what is the best way to treat this baler?
This might be already asked in the previous question. but any hints tips warnings with this baler?
Thanks! I'm 15yrs old and looking forward to making our own hay this year!

Hi!
Thanks for your replies!
I was planning on getting a manual, but thanks for renforcing it. Where could I find the parts for converting it to plastic twine? After conversion, do you have to use plastic twine? Also which twine do you prefer?
Thanks again!

A new holland dealer can get the parts for you, and once it is updated it can use plastic or sisal twine. Plastic is nice because it won't rot, mice don't seem to like to chew it either. It is harder on your hands, and its not biodegradable, so you have to be a little more careful when you cut a bale open, if you drop the twine on the ground it will stay there. If you look at machinery used around plastic twine you will see plastic twine wrapped around some of the shafts. I like sisal, but both work.

Just got a 65 and I am "restoring" it to use on a small acreage. I am curious as to how extensive the plastic twine conversion is (how can you tell if it's installed) because the baler I have came with sisal twine in it?

Get the manual as Josh said, NH equipment from that era had some the best writtem manuals ever. Their trouble shooting section was second to none.

One of the most important items with a baler is keep your PTO speed right.

I believe that the bill hooks on your knotters have to be changed to the newer style if you want to use plastic twine. The most important thing to remember is never get off the tractor with the baler running. You might want to have some shearpins handy, and the owners manual will really help you a lot getting the baler adjusted, and trouble shooting if you have problems.
