Planter Plates- Valuable or junk?.

When cleaning out a shed at my Dad's place I found a ton of planter plates ,mostly IH ,both steel and plastic .Dad sold seed in the 50's and 60's and sometimes furnished plates .He says he gave the JD plates to a neighbor several yr. ago. Do they have any value other than scrap metal?

I have had a couple guys email me about buying the whole bunch .They would probably weigh a couple hundred lb. so it would be cost prohibative to ship by the time that they got crated up. I have decided to pull out the popcorn and sweetcorn plates and sell the rest at a consignment sale .There is a bunch on Ebay but it doesn't look like there is any value or interest .Thanks

Used farm equipment yards typically retail them for a dollar or so per piece. Lincoln Ag Products is currently asking $11 for new (plastic) ones. You see a lot of them on eBay (especially this time of year) that bring a few bucks each when sold in groups. What a lot of sellers do is group them with five or six pairs of like plates. I suppose there is a market selling them this way to folks who have older two row planters.

There are a few people looking for those because thet are using an older planter. Other folks use them as a decorative item. I have seen houseplant stands built using the steel planter plates as the base to set the flower pot on. In any event, I don't think they would be extremely collectible or valuable, but I would hate to see them to go to the scrap heap also.
