kyhayman, I definitely plan on purchasing one before the first cutting this year. I like the idea of pulling the pin, uncoupling the driveshaft and hoses and going.:-) I'm just trying to find out which brand is best.

Swapping from the mower to the roller every time is whooping my A$$. I've seriously considered buying another comparable tractor, until I laid eyes on the caddy. $2200 is a lot cheaper than another tractor. Plus I can transport the mower behind the truck with one, which will save me even more time.:-)

Let me know how it works for you. I probably will have to wait until next year (this subdivison is kicking my a$$ financially this spring).

I like that pulling the pin idea too. Main thing for me is the wear and tear on the tractor. Seems like I'm always breaking a lift arm or having a flat on the mower side.

Blue Guy,mine is a "Stoney Point" made in Okla. It is stout enough but it has a form of three point hitch with an extra cylinder that I never have used so I took extra cylinder off. I bought mine used from my brother. I have seen some that are simpler built that I like better. If you ever pull a disc mower on a caddy you'll wonder what took you soooo long to try it. Tx Jim

Thanks for the info. Tx Jim. I haven't been able to find any info on the Stoney Point brand. I have seen the Kelley Man. Co. and the Pyramid brands on the web. Our local Co-ops sell caddys, but I don't remember which brand.

I don't need the extra cylinder right now, because I'm currently using a late model New Holland mower. I understand you need the extra cylinder with a Kuhn or Krone mower.

So, is the cylinder lift something I could add later or do I need to buy it that way initially? One day I would like to upgrade in size a disc or two.(don't know which brand mower yet)

Blue Guy,I really see no need for extra cylinder on caddy. I run a NH 617 disk mower on caddy and it raises with it's own cylinder similiar to a Kuhn. As someone stated cutter can be towed easily with pick-up. One drawback of caddy is it wears tires out because at every corner tires have to slide on grass. Tx Jim

Ironpeddler, What is your take on the extra cylinder? Is it needed with a certain brand of mower?

A $2200-$2400 trolly that the disc mower mounts on one end and the other end connects to the tractor draw bar as opposed to the 3pt hitch. Lets you use a disc mower on a tractor with out (or with a non working) 3 pt hitch, saves all the hassle of hooking up, and all the extra wear and tear that they cause.

So you guys are talking about a non-trailer type disc-mower rather than a disc-mower conditioner that is a trailer type?

Yes, converts a straight bar disc mower 3pth hitch into a trailer type. Which brings up a good point, a trailer type disc mower conditioner might be money ahead rather than putting the caddy on mine with my mower as a trade in.

So what are you doing now, running a old style conditioiner back over the field, or just not conditioning?

I've got an old NH haybine (474, 1984 model) that I use on stuff like soybeans and pearl millet that really needs it. I run an 8' straight disc mower, followed by an 18' tedder. For curing time, I cant tell any difference if I ted within 4 hrs of finishing cutting. Got $8500 in the combo, bought new, 4 yrs old. Could hardly touch a new disc conditioner for twice that then. Just hated to tied up that kind of money in a mower with me needing an additional tractor then too.

Yeah, I think a disc mower-coniditioner is well over the 20 mark now. I paid $12 for my Deere 1360 12 years ago and I know they are about double that now.

I have seen a couple of 3-pt. disc mowers with conditioning rolls in the equipment magazines. I have not seen any big brands pushing them yet.

What brand mower and tedder are you running? I have a 616 N.H. and a sitrex 4 rotor. I used a 2 rotor last year:-( and can't wait to use the 4 rotor

I learned.... Dad bought a grey NI, wore it plumb out, bought another, wore it out, got a red one first year they came out. Still has it. I bought a worn out Deere, used it 2 yrs. Then got a Bush Hog GHM800 and love it, until I cut with him in the same field one day. He lapped me every 6 rounds. That next year (4 yrs ago) I traded for a New Idea. Tedder is the same brand, Im not married to the brand but got a good deal on a new, old stock 4 rotor. Everything else I've got is NH except the square baler (Deere)
