Bought a "new" toy today, a JD 8W sickle mower to fit my 60. Its a nice complete mower with the cylinder and a good bar and new sickle, However, I need the piece of the PTO shaft that hooks to the tractor PTO and slides into the part of the shaft that is attached to the mower. Id like to get a generic one, or have one made, so can anyone tell me how long that missing piece is, and how big the square part is (1 inch)? The dealer I bought it from said that I could get an "official" one, but it would be expensive, and suggested I could make or buy one. Got the mower for a real good price. Its still snowy here in ND, but I want to get it ready to go. Thanks

If you can find a good dealer that keeps a stock of PTO parts in stock you can make your own that sounds like a standard PTO shaft
most dealers keep Shafts & U-joints in stock all you half to do is weld and cut to size .

I'd go to a place that sells driveline components.. or specailizes in them. TSC has some shaft component on the shelf. Box design is one of the standards.. Might get a premade one and cut to fit, or get the stock and have a yoke welded / pinned on.. etc.
