It's a lot easier to repair a belt than it is to get the bent steel of a broken chain and cross member out of a bale of hay in a baler. We've 2 Vermeers. Heston may be same as some Vermeer or New Holland models. Oh! Both our Vermeers still have their original belts.
My pennies worth.

My Hesston, 5580 ran 8 each 5" belts at 40' long. Didn't buy top of the line 3 ply; second rate 2 ply and still spent $1000.

Dunno where you are or what you're doing. A set of belts for a baler is $1000; min $1500 more like it.....BTDT.

You are blowing smoke with your prices as far as I'm concerned.

Not familiar with the Hesston, but the NH chain baler will make a mushy bale that will sag over time. I'd recommend a belt baler.

Animal,

Flip a coin. Both are good hay machines and both will more than likely need repairs; belts on the Hesston, chains on the NH. Bearings and pickup teeth on each.

Check the condition of the chains on the NH. It will cost more than $900 to replace them if they are worn and it is not easy to work on them. Not familiar with the Hesston.

I'll be honest I don't know much about round balers other than how they work and what not, but when considering a purchase such as this, I would consider which piece of equipment as a dealer close by for parts. I do know that its not much fun to have hay on the ground with rain on the horizon and a baler that is broken.

Just 2 cents
