I've been looking at these and would like to know the power requirments? And what improvements were done. They sound like they could be great machines.

I've got one of the 1219s, and it's great. Like was said before, make sure your tractor is heavy enough. Hit a little mound in the field that it will hang up on, and it could through you right outta your seat! It'll pull your tractor to the side pretty heavy if it's too light. I'm using a NH 3930 with loader on the front, and it's almost too light. But like I said, it's a great machine.

As stated basically same machine, 1219 newer, few minor updates. Bearings and seals, mostly, in the drive systems (beefed up shafts as such). My 1209 likes to have little over 40hp. Gotta be careful though, tractor needs to have some weight. I wouldn't try to run one with a ford 000's or early 0000's series. I run mine with an AC D19. 65hp, 5500lbs. No problems at all. D17, JD 30 series, IH 565, etc. would be a good fit to one. You will need one remote, 540 PTO (no over-run couplers), and a pretty beefy draw bar. Most came with a special hitch (equal angle). Make sure you get it. You can tell by the end of the tongue. It will have an eye let (horizontal). It fits over a stud on the hitch that mounts on the draw bar.

They are great machines. Fortunately for us the don't carry the NH high dollar reputation. However there are a few things you want to check out.

Roller gear box for play. If you grab the slip clutch and try to move it back and forth. There shouldn't be much play there at all. If less than say 1/4" play before engaging rollers its probably OK and has some life left in it. Any more its ready for overhaul. Kinda the same with the wobble box, except I catch it in mid stroke and compare the input pulley to the sickle drive arm. If any play exist I be Leary of it. They should be solid as a rock. And like any machine with rubber rolls, check for cracks and peeling.

THe 1219 was the follow on model after the 1209. They are virtually the same. I have 1207 that I pull with a 34 hp Ford 2000. In Alfalfa I can cut as fast as I can stay in the seat. In heavy grass I slow down quite a bit. I love mine

Never had a 1219 but if better than a 1209, gotta be great. Had 2 1209's, one currently, and after having had other brands, this is a honey. If you want the reason's why, I can supply them.
